Key Mapping

Mapping Functions to keyboard keys is something everyone will want to or need to do at some point in their Aces High career.

To get to the Key Mapping controls, open your clipboard and select Options > Controls > Map Keys on your Clipboard Menu. This will open the window shown below.

The Key Mapping Window has a simulated keyboard at the top, a category list on the lower left, the Function / Assigned Key window in the lower right, and the control buttons along the bottom.

The first step in mapping a key is to select the function you wish to map or change. You do this by selecting the appropriate category from the list on the lower left, then scrolling through the Function / Key window until you find the command you are looking for. The categories are:

  • Gunner: These commands are available to gunners.

  • Vehicle: These commands are available when you are driving a ground vehicle.

  • Chute Keys: These commands are available after bailing from a plane or vehicle.

  • Flight Keys: All the commands available pertaining to flight.

  • View Keys: Commands which control your views in the game.

  • Global Keys: Commands available almost all the time.

Once you have selected the function you wish to map, click on it to highlight it then select the key you want to map it to. You can do this by either pressing the key on your keyboard or clicking the key on the simulated keyboard in your Key Mapping window.

Once you have selected the function and key you wish to map it to, click the [Set Key] button at the bottom you your Key Map window. If you selected a key which is in use somewhere else, a dialogue box will appear asking if you wish to remap the key. Selecting “Yes” will remap the key to the new function and leave the old function with no key assigned. That’s all there is to mapping a function to a key.
