Flight Options
by Hammer
The
"Flight" option on your clipboard's setup menu allows you to toggle 5
functions on or off. The image at the left shows Auto Takeoff, No Tracers, and
Auto Combat Trim are selected while Snap View Padlock and Enable Stall Limiter
are not selected. These are the settings I recommend for a beginner. Here's a
little more information about these settings.
Auto Takeoff - With Auto Takeoff toggled on, your plane will take off
automatically from the runway as long as you don't move the controls. Start out
this way, but learn to takeoff manually as soon as possible. Remember, the auto
takeoff applies only to the first takeoff. If you land and go to the re-arm pad,
you will have to take off manually. Learn manual takeoffs off-line and use
whatever you want on-line. Again, if you re-arm, you must take off manually.
No Tracers - With this option checked, your tracers are off. Some players like
this mode. Some don't. The advantage to having them off is, if you miss your
shot, the other guy won't be warned by tracers going by. If you feel tracers
help you aim, uncheck the box and use them.
Auto Combat Trim - Auto Combat Trim gives your plane approximate trim settings
for your speed. I recommend using it. There will come a time, though, when you
will need to understand how to trim your plane. Read Lephturn's write up on
Combat Trim In Aces High for more information on this subject.
Use Snap View Padlock - Use Snap View Padlock sets the padlock to snap between
views instead of panning.
Enable Stall Limiter - This option helps prevent you from stalling by limiting
the motion of your controls, particularly your rudder and elevators, to ranges
that will not cause a stall. It also prevents you from flying your plane to the
limits of its performance envelope. Learn to fly without it!
